Kale Smoothie

Happy New Year!  Sitting at dinner on New Years Eve we all shared a few of our new year resolutions.  An overwhelming theme was trying to be a bit more healthy in 2017.

I make a smoothie almost every morning for breakfast, and this kale smoothie is one of my favorites.  We were all in Napa this holiday weekend and i harvested several bunches of dinosaur and curly kale.  This morning I made one of my favorite kale smoothies for everyone.  I do love the green color of this delicious smoothie.

Kale Smoothie

Handful of fresh organic kale (I used curly kale)

1 cup almond milk (Califia Farms unsweetened)

1 scoop Sun Warrior, Warrior Blend Vanilla Protein Powder

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 banana

1 tbsp. chia seed

1 tbsp. ground flaxseed

water if necessary to thin smoothie

Put kale in a blender. Add the almonds milk and pulse a bit to break down the kale. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.

Getting enough protein in my diet is always a concern for me as I don’t have a lot of meat in my diet. I try to get about 50 grams a day. The following is a chart of the grams of protein and calories for this smoothie.

Sun Warrior Vanilla protein powder: 18 grams protein | 100 calories

Califia Farms almond milk: 1 gram protein | 30 calories

Chia seeds: 2 grams protein | 70 calories

Flaxseed: 1 gram protein | 37 calories

Curly kale: 2 grams protein | 33 calories

Blueberries: less than 1 gram | 42 calories

Banana: 1 gram of protein | 50 calories

Total grams of protein |26 and total calories|362. Not only do I feel satiated, I start my day consuming 50% of my desired protein.

Delicious!  Have a happy and healthy 2017.
