Abundance

After three weeks of being away from my vegetable garden, in the middle of summer, I knew what I was walking into this weekend. Abundance. The photo above represents this morning’s harvest and does not include all I picked on Friday and Saturday. It is a crazy amount of vegetables!

I think it is safe to say, I have over-planted padron peppers. While I planted the same number of plants as last year (8), I think I finally realize that half that many plants will be more than enough going forward. Noted for next year.

My tomato plants are completely overgrown (over 10 feet tall on my trellises), so I need to do a little pruning to allow some sunlight into the plant and fruit. But look at the great variety of tomatoes I had this morning! My immediate plan: caprese salad for dinner.

The only disappointment is that I have very few beans. Because I haven’t been here to pick them, there were many, many old and tough beans on the plants, preventing new ones from coming on. So my little bowl here will be dinner for two this evening.

I don’t know how large one is supposed to allow their Cippolini onions to become, but I’m guessing these are a bit on the large size. However, I got to the French Breakfast radishes just in the nick of time. And check out this random adorable carrot!

Not represented from my Friday and Saturday harvest: zucchini, peaches, Asian pears, arugula and totsoi.

Let me know if you’d like some vegetables!
