I received a great gift this holiday season of EcoFarm seeds. EcoFarm is an ecological farming association whose mission is to nurture healthy, just, and ecologically sustainable farms, food systems, and communities by bringing people together for education, alliance building, advocacy, and celebration.
My gift box contained ten small containers of organic heirloom seeds.
EcoFarm, founded in 1981 by Amigo Bob Contisano, has grown into a multi-faceted organizing that has a seed swap and exchange program, a genetic engineering news service which provides news on all aspects of genetic engineering, hosts an annual farming festival, holds many different types of conferences and is very involved in water conservation.
The Ecological Farming Association, through educational conferences, training programs, farm events and communication initiatives, support farms working to achieve a Triple Bottom Line. Since its inception, EcoFarm has facilitated hands-on learning, interactive teaching models, and farmer-to-farmer education. The association’s Water Stewardship Project provides education and outreach materials about implementing on-farm water conservation measures.
My gift box included easy to follow steps and techniques for starting an heirloom garden. Carolyn and I have been talking about using seeds to create our own starts and now with all these seeds I must get going.
