One of my favorite magazines is Gardens Illustrated – a UK magazine loaded with everything you would ever wish to read about. The most recent issue just arrived! It is so robust that it takes several perusals to absorb everything contained within.

I love several things about this magazine. There is always a list of gardening classes throughout the UK on every topic including photography workshops, garden classes at specific gardens by their landscape designers, how to create a late summer border, how to select plants for long-term impact, pruning and many, many more. One of these days I’ll find myself in England during one of these classes and I will drop in. How fun would that be!?!

In this particular issue, Blackland House in Wiltshire (not open to the public), with a garden designed by Arne Maynard, is highlighted. He is one of my personal favorites so this article was particularly exciting for me.

I love Magnolias and this issue has a few pages about yellow-flowered magnolias. I always pay special attention to flowers that are yellow, as our home in the Napa Valley is yellow. I loved being introduced to new varieties that I’ve not seen before.

Aside from the lesson in tulip varieties, check out the beautiful photography throughout the magazine. My iphone photos don’t do the magazine’s images justice, so you’ll have to see for yourself.

And it’s always fun to have your special gardening kit. Check out these fun long aprons!

This magazine is full of so many interesting topics that I think it is a must-subscribe if you are passionate about gardening. Even if you are the most seasoned of gardeners, you are bound to learn something new.
