Less is more

Loved our recent visit to Nymphenburg Palace, located in Munich, Germany this fall. The palace was the main summer residence of the former rulers of Bavaria, from the House of Wittelsbach. This dynasty ruled the Germany territory of Bavaria from 1180 to 1918. The last remaining family member, since 1996, is Franz, Duke of Bavaria and he resides in a small section of this beautiful palace, while the remainder of the palace and grounds are open to the public.

There is a 490 acre park and English garden surrounding the palace and the grounds are remarkably simple, yet stunning. Statues of gods by Dominik Auliczek and vases by Roman Anton Boss help provide form and structure to the garden. All of the flowers are white, pink and red begonias mixed together in the beds.

Nymphenburg Park is a reminder, that less is more. The combination of symmetry, water features and a handful of repeating elements is incredibly soothing to experience. This park and garden is a must-visit when visiting Munich.
