My lemon trees have been producing an abundant amount of fruit this year. The trees are so heavy with fruit that branches are lying on the ground. I use lemons all the time in dressings for salads, flavoring for poultry and garnish for cocktails. I also try to start my day with a cup of warm water and the juice of one lemon. This morning ritual wakes up my digestive tract, gives my immune system a little boost and helps with the collagen production in my skin through the consumption of vitamin C and also helps promote healthy body weight.
I love “cocktail” hour, but don’t alway want to drink alcohol. I was introduced to this drink while having lunch with a friend. This “mocktail” is equally refreshing and satisfying, as well as healthy. The cayenne pepper gives the tongue a bite like alcohol would.
Mocktail Recipe
5 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon organic maple syrup
pinch of cayenne pepper
bubble water
ice
In a glass, mix lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Add bubble water and ice. Garnish with a twist or wedge of lemon. Enjoy!
