Must-have hat

A gardening hat is a necessity for me, especially if I’m in the garden in the afternoon when the sun is at its peak. Call it my fair skin or paranoia of prematurely aging my skin, but I will wear just about any hat that will give me protection from the sun’s harmful rays – and I’ve tried quiet a few.

I found this Catalina Cotton Hat from Solumbra which provides 100+ SPF (!) and it’s been my favorite so far. The relatively attractive bow on the side not only allows you to adjust the fit on your head and keep your hat on in windy conditions, but provides some design appeal. It comes in three different sizes and four different colors as of the time of this post – navy, black, tan and white. Bonus: it is super easy to pack.

Eventually my hat gets dirty from touching or adjusting the brim with my gardening gloves, but it cleans well. It can either be spot cleaned or washed in a delicate cycle. The price suits me as well – only $64.95. A bargain for protecting your skin!
