My Happy Place

As you have seen from my recent posts, I have been traveling. I drove up early yesterday morning to see my garden and have now spent two days weeding, harvesting, tying up tomatoes and green beans, ripping out radishes and watering. While I was gone, the Napa Valley has had a heat wave, and my automatic watering has not been sufficient. My happy place is working in my garden.

I picked a huge bowl of green beans from the plants that Carolyn started from seed. They are so delicious just steamed and then finished in Ghee. Thank you Carolyn!!

This zucchini plant was a gift from my gardener’s brother.  I picked three monster zucchini good in bread or muffins, and two of perfect size to roast for dinner.

“Big Max” pumpkin is taking over my planter box and part of my driveway.  I put some straw under a few of the pumpkins and set them upright in hopes of having a couple of “big” perfect pumpkins for jack-o’-lanterns.

I designed and built (with my gardener) my rose trellis.  I spray-painted it the color of my house.  I love the look of it tucked in with rosemary, salvia, agapanthus and hydrangeas.

My roses were if full second bloom.  I had cut them back hard before leaving on my trip and was welcomed home with full blooms.

Apple overload!  I had to thin my espaliered apple tree as it was so heavy with new apples that were only going to get bigger.

My sweet 100s are starting to come in. I can’t wait for a couple more weeks when my vines will be full of ripe tomatoes.

What a great gift it is to be able spend time in my garden.
