I hadn’t been up to Oakville in a couple of weeks and when I arrived yesterday, I was blown away by the warm weather and spring-like conditions. Everything is beginning to bloom like my daffodils – the quintessential greeter of spring.
My yellow rhododendrons are fully blooming and are actually showing signs of winding down already. I am grateful to have caught them in bloom before they leave for the year.
My roses are all introducing their new leaves for the year and I even discovered a rose flower from my Flower Carpet White Ground Cover Rose bush. How is this possible already?!?
I have one daphne and it has been in bloom for nearly two months. I was happy to see it’s still hanging in there. Love the scent…
My hellebore is always in bloom, but it somehow stands out more in the spring when everything around it comes to life.
All of our camellias are still blooming and I especially enjoyed the two new pink varieties I couldn’t resist buying this weekend: Camellia Jamponica ‘Chandleri Elegans’ and Camellia Japonica ‘Marie Mackall’.
My absolute favorite flower of all time is the peony and I’m lucky enough to have a few of these beautiful plants and flowers. The first peony to bloom in our garden is the Alhambra – a huge yellow-flowered tree peony. I am curious how they will do this year as we didn’t have much of a winter – and they love a good winter. I was happy and relieved this morning to see quite a few buds about to open.
My pluot, plum and peach trees are all flowering with an abundance of bees buzzing about and enjoying the flowers. These beautiful flowers portend a successful fruit season, as long as we don’t get heavy rain once the flowering begins. Fingers crossed!
An espaliered pluot…
A yellow peach tree…
Side by side plum and pluot trees…
Spring is here early this year and to me, there is no more magical time of year.
