Veggie Tales

Woke up in the Napa Valley to a glorious morning of filtered sunlight after a stormy night in which it rained 3 -1/2 inches on Mount Veeder.

I spent a couple of hours in the garden this morning harvesting Washington Navel oranges, Santa Teresa (Italian) lemons, Satsuma mandarins and Meyer lemons. I like to make a large pitcher of water with sliced citrus to drink all day. So refreshing.

Last fall on September 3rd I planted Raab Zamboni broccoli, Marathon broccoli and Jade E Cross brussel sprouts. My brussel sprouts are doing really well this year and I plan to harvest them next weekend for dinner. Last year my brussel sprouts did not form. Was it the change in weather?

I pulled both types of broccoli out of the garden, as the florets just never developed. Last year my broccoli crop was prolific, this year a bust.

Today I also planted Rainbow carrot blend seeds, Tri-colored Romaine lettuce blend seeds and Heirloom Parris Island Romaine lettuce seeds. The lettuce will produce in about 60 – 65 days…. so, come mid-March, I should be able to begin getting fresh lettuce again.
